USS BUSHNELL - AS15
A Tribute to our Shipmate and Friend, Andy Gorto.
|
I met Andy Gorto for the first
time in Key West, FL. at our
the BurninBush website on
Feb. 14, 2001 and Andy found
the site and joined on Feb. 17,
2001. Including myself, Andy
was the third person to join
our group.
Almost immediately, Andy and
I started to talk about a
Bushnell Reunion. At the time,
we thought it would take 3 or
4 years to get enough members
to even begin to think about a
reunion. But we both had the
dream of seeing the Bushnell
group grow.
50 plus members. Would it really be possible to have our
first reunion just over a year after the group was created.
We thought we could and we began to plan. Since Andy
and I both served have our first reunion. We had never met
face to face, but we had sent each other numerous e-mails
and lots of phone conversations. In May of 2002, we held
the first USS Bushnell Reunion at the Grand Key Resort in
Key West, Florida. For years, Andy and I would still
Andy Gorto loved planning and attending the Bushnell
Reunions. He has been missed by all since the Tampa
reunion, but his heart has always been with us. He is now at
rest, free from the pain he has endured for so many years,
waiting for the final ressurection.
You worked hard and tirelessly Sailor and we have to say it
was a job well done.
Sailor, Rest Your Oar
